The latest addition to The Cathedral College school campus, the Library and Student Services precinct is now open for student use. Constructed by Griffin Builders, the new Library provides a number of services and facilities for College students.
A key principle to the planning of the space was the ability for staff to supervise all areas of the facility easily to allow students to access and utilise different areas. The ability for students to freely move around the space and choose the appropriate space to support their learning is critical for the development of the students. However, it was important to maintain the openness and passive supervision of spaces to maintain student safety.
In addition to the standard functions of the Library, we have incorporated a tiered learning area. This space provides a number of learning environments with large group settings (as shown above) and small group settings (a group per tier) achievable within the space. Again, the visual connection to the main counter allows this room to be utilised at all times when not timetabled.
